{"id":296,"date":"2023-06-19T12:11:20","date_gmt":"2023-06-19T12:11:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/francescaszemere.com\/wordpress\/?page_id=296"},"modified":"2023-06-20T12:03:04","modified_gmt":"2023-06-20T12:03:04","slug":"conversations-with-a-song","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/francescaszemere.com\/wordpress\/creative-practice\/past-projects\/conversations-with-a-song\/","title":{"rendered":"Conversations with a song"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><em>Conversation with a Song <\/em>is a short series&nbsp; consisting of three video performances in Italian, interlacing Slam Poetry to Video Art and Performance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The poems dialogue with three very popular songs but each text and meaning is reinterpreted \u2013 or, perhaps, expanded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In this way, the conversation with <em>Hey Jude<\/em> allows for a discussion of mental health and depression, the one with <em>The House of the Rising Sun<\/em> opens a space to rethink addiction, and the one with the famous Italian song <em>Giardini di Marzo<\/em> offers a way to reimagine physical illness and the relationship to one\u2019s own body.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In all three poems, language is symbolically the medium of these conversations but also ends up being the focus of their content: in fact, each conversation ends up questioning the role of language in how we imagine (and thus relate to) mental and physical illness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Finally, poetry is performed and translated into a video performance which adds a new layer of signifcance.
